Play, Pulse & Release is an intermediate-level class that expands theatrical range and performance quality. Blending informed choreography, improvisation, and playful, liberating movement, the class develops expressive range and emotional clarity through dynamic, rhythm-driven work.

Drawing from Klaymoon’s 17+ years of study, training, and teaching in house dance, the class offers a hybrid choreographic language that integrates groove, pulse, floorwork, and articulate footwork. Students are guided through subtle body awareness and embodied presence using inventive scores and improvisational concepts. This practice aims to invigorate the indestructible creative flame within each participant, inviting unfettered play, stretching performance quality across levels, and fostering liberation through the body within a loving community.

House Class

w/ Nicole Klaymoon

Mondays 6:45-8pm

Location: Dance Mission Theater
3316 24th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110

Rooted in deep reverence for the Black social dance tradition of house dance, this class honors each participant’s untamed and distinctive artistic expression. The class emphasizes the cipher (freestyle circle) as a way to activate the raw, communal energy of house dance. Through inventive concepts, footwork drills, internal groove, and world-building exercises, the workshop seeks to ignite the creative flame within each dancer—inviting unfettered play, expanding performance quality, and fostering embodied liberation within a loving, supportive community.

All Levels House Dance w/ Rama Mahesh Hall

Every Friday, 4:45-6:00pm | $15

Lake Merritt Pergola
599 El Embarcadero, Oakland, CA 94610

House Dance is a style of dance that originated in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s from underground clubs in Chicago and New York. It is a melting pot of many styles, such as Tap Dance, African dance, Latin dance, Capoeira and Hip Hop, as well as other street dance forms.

In this class, Rama explores groove, technique, footwork, body control, spins, feeling, connecting to the music, connecting with each other, and more. Rama teaches foundation and concepts, as well as phrases to put the ideas together, and space at the end to explore everything the student has learned.

This class is outdoors, in front of the beautiful Lake Merritt.
